How Internet Freebies Work

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

There are lots of freebies on the internet. The important point on freebies is knowing which ones are really worthwhile and how to get them. Free information on everything is available too, but how can you know it is trustworthy?

Freebie marketing, also known as razor and blades business model, according to wikipedia, is the concept of either giving away a salable item for nothing or charging an extremely low price to generate a continual market for another, generally disposable item. This is quite popular today through companies giving away free samples online. The concept was all started by King C. Gillette, inventor of the disposable safety razor and founder of Gillette.

The freebie marketing model may be threatened if the price of high margin consumables in question falls due to competition. For the freebie market to be successful, the company must have an effective monopoly on corresponding goods. .

Obviously, it is helpful to get reliable freebies from reliable websites. For instance, CNN posted an article in April 2008 on “23 surprising things you can get for free.” Trusted sites like wikipedia, snopes, national news and weather websites, and government websites can normally be trusted.

At this particular time with the economy, many of us need to save money on groceries. Instead of buying a newspaper and waiting for the right coupons you want to save money, you can search for the products you want in the beginning and print out the coupons. Be careful when printing coupons that you are using a reputable site that will not download their spyware or adware when you need software to print the coupons.

One of the amazing progressions in our internet age is the availability of medical information for any question we may have for any particular ailment. Again, making sure information is legitimate is key. Detailed information that lists case studies through universities is very seldom false. Encyclopedia sites are usually accurate as well. If the information is very detailed and specific rather than vague, it is probably genuine. Once you are sure it is genuine, you can use information at that site to expand your knowledge using key words to further your search. It is amazing what helpful medical information we can find with careful research.

An easy way to gauge whether information you are reading is worthwhile is to look at its content. Is there some information that you are reading that is helpful, or is it rambling information just about someones personal opinion? Because many people live for drama these days, it becomes increasingly difficult to find a clear demarcation between what is reality and what isn’t. Many people want to be entertained most of the time, but if you are trying to accomplish a task or find an answer or protect your computer, you are not looking for drama. You don’t want to waste a lot of time searching blog sites. There are times when you do want opinions. This might be when you are shopping for a product and want to find out what others think about it. Otherwise, it is best to read articles based on knowledge rather than opinion.
